Andrea, over at Bella Eats had requested a comprhensive recap of the grocery challenge – and I thought – WHAT A GREAT IDEA!
Here’s a breakout of what we spent:
- Target – 11/5 – $10.70
- Walmart/Aldi – 11/10 – $42.23
- Aldi’s – 11/18 – $34.00
- Aldi’s - 11/22 – $13.32
- Marc’s/Aldi’s – 11/26 – $21.75
BRINGING OUR GRAND TOTAL TO: $122.00
We were under our proposed goal by $4! Here are a few factors that help us reach our goal, as well as a few take-aways from doing the challenge
- Allowing ourselves the “1 dinner out a week” – really really helped keep us under goal
- Generosity during the holidays was another factor that kept us afloat
- Free meals from your parents are still totally allowed, it doesn’t matter your age
- I spend way too much on groceries
- We can still eat well and in a healthy fashion, but the grocery bill should never be over $200
That’s about it. I think I might continue this over into December, but I haven’t completely decided yet.
Also, sorry I don’t have any food pics for you today. I’ve felt like I was coming down with the flu since last night around 5pm, so I really have done nothing but sleep. To keep it visually interesting, I’m giving you you’re Friday fix – two days late:
see more puppies

more animals

Nice recap! I agree – it’s definitely doable to eat well for under $200. We’re not continuing the challenge though.

Yay!!! Thanks for the recap!!! I’m super-impressed…we spend way too much on food. I haven’t set too specific a challenge for us this month other than to watch carefully and try to figure out what makes our bills so high. I would love to cut our food bill in 1/2!!! So far I’m finding that its the last minute things you throw in the cart that kill you…sale on soup, persimmon, asking the hubby to pick up eggnog on his way home….etc.
Hope you feel better soon!
