Woke up at 6am – nervous – and WIDE AWAKE!
Had coffee and spicy oats in my belly by 6:15:

Then proceeded to STRESS out for 2 more hours!
Mike was nice enough to drive me down to the starting line, so I didn’t need to worry about parking. I found a port-o-potty, and came out of it RIGHT as the 10 mile starting gun went off! I hopped into line, crossing the starting line about 1 minute behind the first person.
First 3 miles I felt pretty good, but I was really worried about tiring out – so I was pacing around 10:30/mile.
Mile 5 and 6 were pretty rough – and I think most of it had to do with the fact that almost all of my training was done inside on a treadmill. The pounding on the pavement was more difficult than I had anticipated.
This is right around mile 5 (NICE SHOT DAD!)

I hit mile marker 6 at 1:08:54, which was way slower than I would have liked (although that wasn’t my actual time since I was delayed in crossing the starting line).
Miles 7 to 10 are kind of a blur. I was “tired” but did a good job of telling myself to just zone out - I was rockin to some of the new songs I downloaded the night before to help get me through the race.
I saw Mike at about mile 9.5 and he told me to PUSH IT!

I picked it up the best I could, but each time my right foot hit the ground, I felt my whole leg retract a millimeter. By then, I felt like my right leg was 3 inches shorter than the left leg, because my muscles were growing so tight!
As the finish line finally came into my line of sight, I saw Mike, my mom and dad, and Kristin – talk about support!

I pushed it, and crossed the finish line at 1:58:40 – which my official time was probably 1:57:40 or so. Here I am with my wicked awesome “finishers” medal:

My cheering section (sans photog Dad):

They were serving “breakfast” in the finish line tents, so I grabbed some eggs…

Which I took one bite of and promptly threw away. It was like someone dumped a FULL salt shaker on my portion alone! BLECH!
I was in serious need of something in my belly, so with no other options I was SECONDS AWAY from gagging down a banana (have I mentioned before how I feel about bananas?!?!?!?!?!)….

When Mike miraculously whipped out a granola bar and saved my life. Don’t worry – the naner didn’t go to waste – Kristin ate it!
Overall I was happy with my time – I was aiming between 1:50:00, and 2 hours – hoping to be closer to 1:50 – but I knew with all my indoor training, I’d be slower outside! I do feel better prepared for the half marathon on May 17th though! Watch out here I come!
Hiya piyas!
How’s life treatin’ ya? I’ve got a lot to catch you up on, but I figured I’d start with the most enjoyable topic - CARB LOADING!
All day Friday I was stressing out about the race on Saturday – the only thing I wasn’t concerned about – was making sure I ate enough carbs – I had that totally under control.
I went with homemade whole wheat pizza, and Annie’s Shells!
Nekkid pizza:

With veggies:

Finished feast:

Carb-a-riffic perfection!
I got all my running gear together, so as to avoid any excuse for conniption fits the next morning…

The pile:
- shoes – check
- running outfit – check
- shotblox – check
- bib/d-tag – check
- ipod/headphones – check
- chaffing lotion – check
Nothing left to do but relax, and watch disc one of Season 2 of Twin Peaks!
So I’m really starting to freak out about the 10 mile race tomorrow. I’m not sure why, but it hit me all of a sudden, and now my stomach keeps doing a crazy flip flop each time my mind wanders to it!
EEK! Any last minute advice or pointers???
Breakfast. Shocker:

Ate it both yesterday and today!
Lunch yesterday was a salad – which I made a little more colorful than usual to try and rid myself of salad boredom:

I’d say it worked out – especially with the carrots and hummus I snuck in on the side!

Dinner was SO boring (and kinda gross looking honestly) – but it was the FASTEST and easiest thing I could find! Vegetarian chili:

and 2 – 40 calorie hot dogs – that just end up looking super phallic here – sorry ya’ll!

Mike and I took Lando on a quick walk after dinner, then headed up to Circle K to get Polar Pops – (yes, we are extremely fancy people) – you know how I feel about DDP!
Earlier this week, I was just thinking how sad I was that the Easter season had passed, and I didn’t eat one single, deliciously gooey filled Cadbury egg. I’d even checked all Easter candy sales at Target and Giant Eagle – but no luck! Well what to do you know – I walk in to dinky dirty little Circle K – and I see a FULL SHELF of CADBURY EGGS!

AWESOME! When I was in high school – my friends and I would call them chicken embryos – because we thought the word embryo was hysterical (translation – we were ‘TOTALLY COOL”) – and I still laugh and think of that every time I eat one! Look at the ooey gooey goodness!!!!

Just what I had been craving! Although – I think it was getting “old” because the inside wasn’t as “liquidy” as I remember. Maybe it’s just old age!
At lunch today – I ran downtown to pick up my race packet (remember how I said I was freaking? that didn’t help the freaking one bit), and came back to my lunch already prepared! We have a cookout every once in a while where the Senior Team cooks for the entire staff – always a great lunch on a Friday!

I was SUPER lucky today becuase I was even able to score a veggie burger!!! It’s the litlte things in life that keep me happy! What you don’t see… the 10 cheez balls I shoved in my face as I was walking back to my desk because I was so hungry!
Okay – off to stress out about my race in the morning enjoy the beautiful weather outside! HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!
