Clean Life, Week 1 Recap

Clean Life – Week #1 Review

With one week of the challenge down, I figured I’d give you all a recap and let you know how it’s going!

Cons:

  • really hard to keep up with when traveling
  • the caffeine/aspartame deprivation headaches  (my body was used to 4 or 5 DC’s a day!)
  • being tired while adjusting to the new caffeine levels
  • I don’t think I’m getting enough protein or carbohydrates
  • feeling addicted to ingredient lists
  • soy is in EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!  GRRRRR!!!

Pros:

  • I feel healthier (mentally and physically)!
  • I love agave, and Splenda tastes sickeningly artificial after only 7 days of not having it!
  • I’m craving DC less and less
  • After breaking the rules on Saturday/Sunday – I was excited to (and WANTED to) get back to eating healthy
  • The scale is down 2lbs!
  • I’ve forced myself to try new things

So overall – not too shabby – 1 week down, 3 to go!

(let’s just ignore my multiple beers, red bull, DC mixed with Johnny Walker, and fast food from the weekend – k?)

Once we got home – my body was screaming for vegetables – so I went straight to the kitchen, and chopped up a sweet potato for fries – and munched on this plate while I waited:

So refreshing!

I came back in the family room to see these two little bugs cuddling together:

Seriously?  How flippin’ cute is this picture!?!?!?!  Lando certainly has a rough life!

End result with the sweet potato fries:

MM, MM, Delicious!

I did manage to do one productive errand yesterday – and that was to hit up Nature’s Bin – a local health store I’ve heard marvelous things about, but never tested out myself!

IT.WAS.AWESOME!  They had everything you could imagine!  I wanted to take pics of everything, but I figured they probably had a policy similar to Whole Foods – so I kept it in my purse!

Here’s the loot I ended up taking home:

Hazelnut Agave?!?! Why did I ever complain out the Clean Life challenge?!?!  I’m in heaven!

My favorite new purchase/product:

Zico Coconut Water (passion fruit flavored) – WOW.  I had low expectations – I was convinced I wasn’t going to like it – but that I should try it. End result?  I’m obsessed.  I spent all last night researching the cheapest places to buy it online.  It’s AWESOME.  VitaCoco seems to be their competition, and they come in slightly cheaper – anyone try that brand out and like it?

Great job on the Clean Life challenge. I like you pro/con list. And great job staying away from DC. I need to be better about that.

Nice new header! :)

And congrats on doing so well with the challenge. It’s truly scary to think how “”addicted” I am to caffeine…gotta kick the habit eventually but being a college student without some is just painful!

I love vita coco! They have different flavors, but my fave by far is coconut with pineapple.

Congrats on the challenge! I’m doing the challenge too, but modified for my own lifestyle. I’m doing pretty well, introducing new foods to myself, changing things up for lunch/dinner, actually preparing and making food for the week, and eating alot of salad! I’ve become addicted to green monsters and find that organic chicken and ketchup are WAAAAY better than non. I gave up diet soda like you, but didn’t drink it as much. I also gave up gum chewing, which has been SO HARD. Good luck on the rest of the challenge!

Hi Allison,

I typed up the questions, but for some reason it keeps saying my messages are undeliverable :( I will try again later!

Great job on your Clean Life Challenge so far! IT sounds tough:) I have a Vita Coco at home but I have yet to drink it! I will let you know what I think when I do but I’ve heard great things! Do you just drink the coconut water straight or mix it up in a smoothie?

Awww little Lando Bean! She’s adorable and a lot smaller than I thought (not that I thought she was HUGE, I just thought she was longer)!

I used to have that same DC addiction (one with every meal and another when I had a snack) and gave it up cold turkey. It sucked at the time but now I can’t even imagine drinking that much! Good luck with your upcoming weeks – it’ll get easier!

I adore those fruit leathers! Make me feel like a kid eating fruit roll ups. Remember those, lol!

Congrats on completing the 7 days!

Question .. will you be going back to DC .. just smaller amounts? or cut it out completely?

Ahhhh – I LOVE Nature’s Bin! You got some great loot! Great job on your clean eating – I still have to have my one diet coke every morning. I don’t drink coffee or tea, so it helps me get through my early mornings! Keep up the good work!

I’m glad things are (pretty much) going well! Congrats on finishing the first week. And yay for no diet crack! I know those withdrawal headaches far too well. I swear there’s something else in there besides the caffeine and aspartame that cause that horrible feeling.

Haha I love that pic! Too cute. Hazelnut agave sounds amazing, and I’m so intrigued by that coconut water! I’ll have to look for it :)

So excited for you about the first week going so smoothly! And omg, you and I SHARE the zico obsession! But the health food store I buy it at is ridiculously overpriced.. :(

Awesome! I am so proud of your splenda discovery!
