Wanted:

Sober Crew!

Isn’t this sign just too fun?!?!

picture-0082

I found the cutest nautical/island-y theme knick-knacks shopping this weekend with my mom!  These were my two favorite – I whipped out my camera right in the middle of the store to take pics for ya’ll!

I woke up early on Sunday – to the hit the road for my first long run since the half marathon.  It had been 3 weeks since I’d run anything over 2 miles – so I figured I’d better get to it!  I pounded out 4 sweaty, muggy miles – and it felt great.  I’m thinking I need to officially take the dive and sign up for the Columbus marathon.

When I got back – I munched on some strawberries, while sitting, and enjoying the view:

Rough life, right?

By the time we were finished with more shopping and organizing – my stomach was ready to eat itself!  I made a quick lunch with the limited supplies that were in the fridge:

Turkey sandwich with a slice of swiss, potato salad, and some strawberries.

Did you see that lovely Diet Coke in the background? That is my last DC for a month.  I almost shed a tear just THINKING about that fact.

I headed back towards Cleveland around 3, but I wanted to show you guys this store up at the islands I’ve been dying to try:  Cheesehaven

It looks pretty interesting from the outside – I’m not really sure what look they were going for when they built the place – but I always laugh when I drive by it.  Well, apparently – they have some amazing items in side – so next time I’m up there – I’m gonna check it out and let you all know what I find!

After catching up on some blog reading, while getting some Lando lovin’… (she likes to blog read too!)

(also – please excuse the scary looking, glasses-wearin’ lady and her 4 chins…)

It was definitely time for dinner.  I wanted to try and finish up a few things I had hanging out in the house still,  so that I could do well in the upcoming challenge (see below).  So I made tofu, with some instant rice – with a side of tostitos with LIME!

I threw a few pieces of mozzarella on there to spice everything up!  DELISH!

Now – about that challenge I mentioned…

Heather and Rose have thrown out the Clean Life Challenge – and I jumped at the chance to participate, because while I feel I lead a very “balanced” life – there are a few items I would like to cut back on!! Notice I said CUT BACK – not ELIMINATE.  I figure one month of deprivation may help that.

Basics of the challenge:

  • Reduce/eliminate most dairy – Shouldn’t be too hard, I don’t eat too much dairy, although I LOVE CHEESE…
  • Reduce/eliminate most soy – Tricky because I have a new found love for tofu, and soy hides in so many products – just pick up a box in your cupboard and read the ingredients!
  • Utilize more green products for skin care and health – no biggie here!
  • NO white flour – I’m pretty good about reading ingredient lists and looking for wheat flour…
  • No sugar or sugar substitutes – GAHHHHHH!  This means no Diet Coke. Anyone who knows me, knows that Allison + No DC = DISASTER – stay away!  I typically drink about 4 cans of Diet Coke a day – I LOVE the stuff.   This is going to be SO HARD…(that’s what she said…)
  • Reduce processed and packaged foods – Right now, I think this should be manageable.  I eat a lot of fresh produce – the only thing that tends to be processed/packaged are my snacks – I’ll just have to be more aware of my snacking!

This challenge starts today – June 8th, and goes through July 8th.  We’ll se how it goes!

Last but not least – I loved reading this article – I TOTALLY remember all of these! Land of the Lost FOOD!

Ha. Cheesehaven is SO sketch. It has been there for as I can remember and I’m pretty sure most of the shelf stock had been there as long. Enjoy :-)

Love those signs! Too cute. Great run, too! Good luck on the clean life challenge. It looks hard, but I can’t wait to see how it goes. I’m curious to see if you notice a big difference in the way you feel.
Have a great day!

You can do it! I love Diet Coke as well and haven’t had one in a week. If I can do it, you can. I have been known to drink up to 3 a day.

I really like this challenge as well. I think soy would also be tricky for me because I also just discovered how versatile tofu is!

Have you tried La Croix sparkling soda? They sell it at Target. It may help with your diet coke cravings!

Those signs are awesome! Your family’s new house looks so nice. I am definitely jealous.

I hope that you are still having wine because two wine bloggers must have wine together! :D And are you signing up for C-bus?!! *squee*

Love your fam’s new island house, that is awesome! I totally forget what else I was going to say but it was some stuff. ;)

WOW Allison! You’re giving up DC? Good luck! When I gave up pop for lent my freshman year I lost a bunch of weight. Maybe I should give it up too. You really gave me motivation to start running. Once I start getting in shape lets go running together. : )

I gave up soda years ago. It was hard, but I don’t crave it at all anymore. When I do have a dc my teeth feel really icky and its just a turn off. You can do it!

[Reply]

You can doooo it! DC is a drug, no joke. I will be here to cheer you on and direct you pass the DC and cheese and onto the fruits and veggggiiies!

That challenge looks interesting.

Yea, the runner’s gait would have been half price ($7!) if I were a member of the gym. I did it through my park district, who did it in conjunction with a local rehabilitation & sports medicine facility (which in turn is part of the hospital system). So try looking into places like that.

I’ve seen this same analysis elsewhere for $30. Even at that price though, I’d still do it. I go on Wednesday to find the results! Hopefully they don’t tell me I’m a lemon. :)

So did you OFFICIALLY sign up for the marathon?!?!

[Reply]

You and the doggy look cute. I have an awful picture of me in glasses lying on the couch reading with my dog. But the dog looks so cute that I kept the photo around. What I won’t do for a cute animal photo.

[...] and Allison started their own versions of The Cleaner Life this month! If you’re doing it too, please comment [...]

Just think of all the horrible things in diet coke and it will be easier! Good luck.

And don’t think I didn’t see that nod to the marathon!!!!!! Sign up. :D

So glad you’re up for the challenge :) I think it’s all about cutting back and out as much as possible. Sometimes you can’t cut it all out, you know?

[Reply]

I need to find another race to sign up for. I haven’t run much since my half marathon. I ran a few times on the treadmill in Jamaica but it was so hot that I couldn’t do more that 3 miles.

[Reply]

Oh that view is soooo relaxing!!

Good luck on the clean challenge!! It doesnt sound that bad per say, but I know it will be…sneaky ingredients!!

[Reply]

Those are some great challenge goals. Are vegetables really good for the skin? I have heard that about cranberry juice(go figure) and water. But never veggies. But if they are- all the better!

[Reply]

Columbus marathon?!?!? what about Disney?!?!?! :)
