Hemorrhaging Money

Do you go through spurts where you will be great about saving, and then all your expenses hit you at once?????

That’s what happens pretty often for me and Mike – we will be fantastic about savings (and our savings account will rget up there!  $$$) – and then all of a sudden an insane amount of expenses hit!   This week – I signed up for a gym membership (18 months worth), plan on buying my plane ticket and hotel for San Francisco, and I’m going on a trip to New York!   EEEK!!!  :???:

Does the same thing happen to you?!?!

(Yes, I know all of my aforementioned expenses are hardly necessary – but this also happens all the time to us with car insurance, home insurance, etc, etc – Just humor me!)

For a change of pace (since ya’ll KNOW how much I hate the way my “Spicy Oats to go” look – I thought I’d show you them before they get all mixed & smushed).  Okay – really - I just wanted you to see what I deem the “appropriate amount” of hot sauce.  Gotta get that day started RIGHT!

MMMMM – muy bueno!

Yesterday – I was a bottomless pit from the get-go! I had those oats at about 8:30, and by 11 – I was ready to gnaw my arm off!  I broke into some of my Mariani apricots:

Delicious as ever!

Lunch was a loathsome salad (and my loathsome, I mean – I sat there hating it, wishing it was a triple decker grilled cheese with swiss, pepperjack, and colby!)  I don’t know why but lettuce really wasn’t doing it for me yesterday!

picture-015

At least it looks pretty, right?!

Lately I’ve been craving something sort of sweet after my meals (which is weird – I’ve always had a salty tooth – I don’t like sweets!) – so I opted for a scoop of Naturally More PB, and a broken pretzel rod:

And by 3pm – that gnawing sensation was back – so I dug into my bar stash and found this gem:

I know some people aren’t a fan of these – but this sucker is in contention for my “ALL TIME, HANDS DOWN, FAVORITE BAR” title. (Cherry Pie Larabar, Smore’s Luna, Blueberry Yogurt Luna,  Mint Chocolate Chip Clif  & Peppermint Stick Luna are the other contenders)  VeggieGirl – I haven’t tried the awesome Pure Bars you so graciously hooked me up with – but I’m sure those will be added to the list!

I headed to the gym straight from work – so I could sign up for my  membership, as well as hit up that Centergy class again.  WOWZA!  I don’t ever feel like I’m doing THAT much of a workout in class – but this morning I could hardly walk!  I love that feeling – that’s how you know something is working!

I listened to  my body for dinner (I had been sending  “CARBS” and “PROTEIN” messages all day) – and made a really quick, pretty kick ass wrap:

picture-033

This has FF vegetarian refried beans, 1 egg, 1 egg white, a sprinkle of FF cheese, hot sauce and banana peppers.  This totally hit the spot and quieted my craving!  Or at least quieted my craving until “dessert time”!!!

Remember those ingredients I showed you yesterday – well I used them to make homemade cherry frozen yogurt!

picture-041

I’d seen two other bloggers do it (I can’t find the links right now!) – but I just took the rest of my Oikos, and blended some frozen cherries, added vanilla extract – and put it in the freezer overnight!   AH-MAY-ZING!!!!

I threw it all on top of a “shortcake” which brought my whole dessert to barely 200 calories! Not to shabby, huh?!

Okay – gotta jet!  Happy September!

Hahahahahahaha, yes you do use much more hot sauce than I do!

YES! The $$$ hitting at one time happens to us too. Drives me ntuso. Its happening this month- blah! I love your oats…I think they’re beautius. I also am a huge clif mojo fan. Those bars are the bomb. Hope you’re having a good one :)

Yes, I have the same problem with expenses hitting me all at once. I tend to do more in the summer like trips, dinners, drinks out etc. so I always feel like I spend a lot then. By the time fall hits, I’ve calmed down a bit, but then the holidays come around and I’m busy spending too much on Xmas gifts.

I have the same problem with expenses all at once. It drives me nuts! Your frozen yogurt looks amazing!

haha YES i go through that. i bought my new car and all of a sudden i have all sorts of other bills i somehow spaced. arg. i love the breakfast-burrito-for-lunch and that frozen treat looks so good, how did you make it exactly??

[Reply]

i have weird spending moments… like i won’t buy new clothes for 2 years, and then i’ll just shop for months. it weird.

i’m with ya on the non-sweet tooth – we are a rare breed.

I was just thinking the same thing today! In the next week, I have to pay my car insurance, sister’s bday present, boyfriend’s bday present, and 2 bridesmaids’ dresses…woohoo!

[Reply]

What a great dessert! I always crave sweetness after I eat, even lunch, ugh.
I go through months/weeks where I am really great about saving money, they other times I am the opposite. I look at it this way; I am good with my money, and look for bargains, and don’t spend money on things I don’t need all so that I CAN have fun and go on trips and buy new things! You see? So I’m great with my money so I can afford things I REALLY want and REALLY need!

[Reply]

is it weird that your favorite bars are my least fav? except for the blueberry yogurt one… i’ve never seen it!

[Reply]

UGH that always happens to me!! Total spending rockstar, and then BLAM!!! Happy september :)

[Reply]

We have just about the exact same favorite Clif, Luna, etc bars! I love the ones you listed!!

And yes, it always seems that everything money related hits at once! I will go months buying nothing, but then I’ll have a splurge month. I’ve been very careful lately to work towards past debt, so I always make sure the splurge is something I can afford directly out of my bank account. I relied on credit cards way too much in the past years (for nothing but junk!), and I’m paying for it now!

K i need to try me some savory oats!! Not spicy though – I can’t do that!

[Reply]

LORD girl! You DO use the hawt sauce. Lordy lordy!!
I hate hate hate when bills and expenses pile on. Blargh. GL getting thru it.

[Reply]

yes expenses do seem to wax and wane..probably because we save up so then we feel comfortable spending!

the ice cream looks too good! I don’t know what the deal was but on Monday I could not get enough food…seriously nothing filled me up!

[Reply]

It happens to us at least once a month. Don’t feel bad…it seems to be the way it goes!

[Reply]

That dessert looks amazing!
I totally understand your money issue. We get paid and are at the top of the world and the next day, rent is due, student loans are due, my hubby needs a new car, I mean the list is endless!
But in the end most of the time it balances out!
Have fun in New York, can’t wait to see pictures and good food:)

[Reply]

Yea, the expenses overload gets me, too. Especially when school starts–there’s always so much to buy! Textbooks freakin killed me this year. Why the heck does a biology book + cd package have to be $280?!

Your dessert looks soo yummy! The ice cream is such a pretty color.

[Reply]

Oh yes – that same thing happens to us ALL the time. It’s so annoying…one minute we’re doing great with out money, and then next thing I know, we’re slammed with a million different expenses.

Your dessert looks delish!

[Reply]

ah yes, that always happens to me. its like, as soon as you are in the clear, you are in the red again, right?!?! good girl dealing with the endless hunger…some days i am just so snacky and cant stop!!!!

[Reply]

Love the homemade froyo!

[Reply]

Ha I know what you mean about the salad thing. I love salads but sometimes I want a HUGE sandwich with fries instead!

[Reply]

I always want something sweet after every meal. In fact, I could go for a little dessert now and I just had breakfast!

[Reply]

To answer your question…um, YES! I haven’t spent very much money all summer and in the past few days I’ve been getting that urge to splurge!

Oh lordy, that dessert looks delicious! I love the shortcake bottom :)

By the way, a few months ago I posted about words that gross me out and hemorrhage is definitely one of them, hah! It’s something about the spelling that hits a nerve!

[Reply]

I am going through the same thing with money. I felt like I was doing good and then all of these expenses hit this month and all of a sudden I feel like I’m back to square one. I just need to breathe and remember it’s all good things.

[Reply]

Those mojo bars are my fave too! I am with you on the salty tooth over the sweet tooth all the way.

[Reply]

wow what a great idea for dessert!

[Reply]

I feel the same way about money! I feel like it’s a never ending cycle… *Sigh* Some day…

[Reply]

Same issue with moeny here! It is like every time my rent is due my phone, gym, insurance bill comes the very next day. I hate putting off paying them so I feel the sting in my savings the same day every month. It should be called rip of the band-aid day!

[Reply]

Yum, those spicy oats look good. Looks like there’s a bunch of Frank’s in there?! If so, you’re a girl after my own heart :)
