I have been in love with my kitchen scale, since the day I was lucky enough to win it from the wonderful Biz – but I wanted to show it off again today!
One of the most interesting things I’ve found – I WAY underestimate CERTAIN foods in terms of portion size. The worst culprit:

Cereal!
When I started to try and lose weight 3 years ago (crazy it’s been that long!) – I did it by counting calories – but in an “eyeball”-ing-it fashion. What you see in the picture above – I would have called 1 serving – and counted it as 110 calories accordingly.
What is it really? 2 FULL servings – totaling 220 calories!
I love my scale – it gives me an extra level of precision that I am totally digging!
Lunch on Friday was a nice medley:

Super ripe Bartlett pear, veggies and hummus, and a kinda-sorta homemade Caesar salad:

I had a few snack packed for Friday afternoon – but I got crazy slammed from 3pm on – so I didn’t even have time to think of a snack!
I came home to a very handsome looking, (Mike has to wear a suit a bunch now for his externship!!!) but VERY HUNGRY husband.
We had 5 awesome Restaurant.com coupons – and picked Lago (which you may have heard me talk about here). We drove down to Tremont, found a close parking spot, only to walk up to the door to find a sign that said “Closed for a Private Party”. Great.
We weren’t upset, we are a roll with the punches sort of couple – but I had decided to leave all 4 remaining gift certificates at home. Figures, right?!
So after another 20 minutes of driving (with a stop at home to grab the certificates) – we ended up at The Boneyard, with no wait – PERFECT!
I’ve been craving a dirty martini for months now, but not had the chance to order it – Friday I finally had my chance to get one!

MMMMM – dirty dirty dirty heaven!
We had a $$$ minimum to meet in order to use our gift certificate – so we decided to order nachos as an appetizer!

My belly was feeling a little off, so I probably had only 5 or 6 chips.
For my meal – I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap, with the BC on the side (which I didn’t use). I ended up only eating 1/2 of the wrap and that’s it because my stomach still didn’t feel right.

I tried to snap a quick picture of Mike’s meal too (he doesn’t have the patience to wait for me to snap a few pictures) – look at how crazy his burger was:

I huge honkin’ onion ring, bacon, cheese and 2 beef patties (not to mention – I am probably forgetting other things that were thrown on there!)
After dinner, we headed home to relax – and we decided to open a bottle of Cab I had just bought the night before: Killer Bee! (sounds dangerous, right?)

I really liked this wine – Mike, no so much! That’s fine by me – MORE for me!
We really had a perfect relaxing Friday after a crazy short week! Hope your Friday was just as great!

Cereal and I used to be BFFs back in the day – multiple bowls of them (particularly Cinnamon Toast Crunch)! The end of that burrito looks awesome. I’m a big fan of the butt of the burritos

I think I need a kitchen scale too. I know I always underestimate food, especially nut butters!
What a great night out!

I live by my food scale! I’ve had friends look at me like I’m crazy for pulling it out but for calorie dense foods like peanut butter it’s way too easy to overestimate a portion.
Those nachos looks insanely good!!!

Mmmm I LOVE LOVE LOVE dirty martinis!! They are my favorite beverage, other than water of course, and maybe coffee…oh and Christmas Ale from Great Lakes Brewing Company. I swera, I AM an RD!
Nick used to not like it when I took pictures of his food, but now he’s the one who reminds me to do it! It’s crazy how much he has changed since I first started blogging.
Glad you finally found a great place to eat. I love finally getting to a restaurant and having zero wait time! Can’t beat it.

Cereal portion sizes are killer!! And I way underestimate too. Which is why it’s one thing that I really have no portion control over – especially because I can eat 4 bowls to be “satisfied”.

What’s even better about the food scale is that if you under estimate your serving size, you can get more! Glad its working out for you!
And those pickled jalapenos on the nachos – HEAVEN!

Cereal is my biggest culprit of portion sizes too! I have a food scale but it’s not great. It’s one of those things you have to get a decent one for it to be useful.

Good call on the food scale to double check your portions. I’ve pulled out the measuring cups recently because I know I underestimate all the time as well! Good way to keep things in check.
Have a great Monday! And thanks for the comments on my blog!!
