Sunday morning when I woke up - I was feeling a little sick to my stomach (easy to understand if you look at what my dinner was on Saturday).
So instead of forcing myself to eat when I wasn’t hungry, I just headed off to the gym to hit up a spinning class & abs class – knowing that I’d get some serious nourishment in when I went to meet my family for Dad’s Birthday lunch!
I was meeting my family at Rocky River Brewing Company – one of my favorite restaurants!
Whenever we go out to eat and it’s the whole family (read: my brothers come along) – appetizers are always ordered!
Appetizer – Asian Nachos:

These are SO good! I get them almost every time we go to the Brewing Company. They are topped with sweet/sour/spicy sauce, with chicken, cheese, and a wasabi sauce – AMAZING!
For my meal, I ordered the blackened tuna, which I ate sans bun, so basically – it was just a fillet. In the sunshine:

In the shade:

That cup on the side was some sort of crazy aioli, but it looks MEGA high in fat, so I stayed away. The tuna was just delicious on it’s own!
Since Mike was totally bogged down with school work, I figured I would go hang out at my parents house for a while, since we were having such a nice time visiting.
My Mom called me upstairs to look at something, which turned in to me going through the dresser in my old room and cleaning it out. I found some stuff I wanted to keep, A LOT OF stuff I wanted to throw out, and a few good things to give to my little cousins (like bracelets, trinkets, headbands & stuff). What I found most amusing (and wanted to share with you) are these:

Really, Allison? Yeah – YM, circa, like, I don’t know – July 2003?!?!

Two things here -
- Why was I reading YM at the age of 21?!?!?!
- Why in God’s name was I still HOLDING ON TO THEM!?!?!? Because the content is still totally relevant?! RIGHTTTTTT!
My Aunt Barbara & Cousin Gabby stopped over later (it really turned into the family affair, eh?!) – and we all sat outside for a while chatting. Gabby is 3rd Grade Dog Whisperer Extraordinaire – she just LOVED Lando – and Lando just LOVED her!

Two peas in a pod!
Once I finally did get home – I had a hungry husband, and ZERO desire to even open a can of spaghetti-o’s for dinner – so when I said “Would you be interested in going to Ruby Tuesday’s?” – Mike quickly agreed!
I forgot how much I LOVE Ruby Tuesdays! My old job was basically right next door to one of their restaurants, so I went there all the time! But now – we never go because the one that is “closest” to us is still about 15 minutes away. I swear it’s been at least a year since I’ve been there, because I swear I haven’t blogged about it before!
I got (shocker!) – the salad bar!

This beauty of a plate had:
- Salad with edamame, olives, tomatoes, chickpeas, onions, & broccoli
- Pasta salad (this is my all time favorite “store/restaurant-made” pasta salad!)
- Grapes for a sweet treat!
MMM, MMM, MMM HEAVEN! Just looking at this picture I’m getting hungry again! So good! Just as good as I remember it!
All things considered – the weekend was pretty low-key, and I love that! While we had a lot going out, we weren’t under any time constraints, or worrying about any obligations we had to rush out too! That’s my kind of weekend!

YM! Awesome!! Did you have any Sassy magazines tucked in there too? I have a confession, even though I’m 33 I still get the urge to buy the August issue of Seventeen magazine every year. Such fond memories of back to school!! :>

My Dad recently cleaned out a bunch of old crap of mine. I had some crazy stuff in there! I agree…. why in the world do we hang on to this junk?!?! Ha!

I used to love YM! You’re not alone!
A few years ago, my mom threw away my old magazines (YM and Seventeen mainly) because I hadn’t lived at home in, oh, 4 years…and I was still kind of upset she did! I mean, who knows what gems of wisdom that mags contained!?

I used to get YM too!!! It’s so lame, you’re right. When I ordered it, I was young (not 21, haha) and at the time I thought they were so cool, but as I got older I was like…what is this crap?! I’ve been reading this for HOW LONG?! Too funny.

Do they make YM anymore?
I cleaned out my old bedroom a few years ago and went through about 4 years of magazines that had been shoved under my bed. I ended up keeping a few to show my daughters one day and chucked the rest. Since my high school days I have thankfully picke dup the habit of reading a magazine and throwing it away immediately after I’m done reading it or saving an important article or work out routine and then throwing it away.

First, “Asian nachos” made me laugh. It’s such a culinary oxymoron, hahaha. I’m glad they were Asian-inspired and not made with…real bits of Asians or something. EW, that’s gross.
Second, I totally had that YM because I love me some Michelle Branch!
Third, don’t be embarrassed of lovin’ teeny bopper stuff. We can start a club. (I may or may not be carrying out my grad school work in a High School Musical folder with a picture of Zac Efron on it…)

I used to get YM! But this was like in the 80s and early 90s because I am that old. :p But the name changed! I’m pretty sure when I got it, it was called, “Young Miss” or something like that.
