Yawpfest 2009 Recap – Part 2

Dying to know what the “evening event” was after reading Recap #1?  Well let me share with you!

To fit in with the theme of  Nerdstock – we had all of the evening events at Great Lakes Science Center!!!

GLSC

It’s right on Lake Erie, pretty  much in the middle of downtown, with gorgeous views all around!

We were the first ones to get down there, to help set up for everything so it was totally ready when the rest of the company got there.

As you may know () – I just love being a ham – so I was very easily distracted by a container of costumes, and I just couldn’t resist putting a few on:

Yeah, I amuse myself!

There were 3 main things going on at the Great Lakes Science Center - the first (which is a tradition) – the company group photo!

For some reason – this is never easy!  It always takes about 30 minutes!  :???:

The committee and the Senior Team got to be on the escalators – so I took advantage and snapped some pictures while we were getting organized!

The second event – AN EGG DROP:grin:

The Great Lakes Science Center does this event all the time!   We broke everyone up into little teams and gave them a “box of junk” and about 40 minutes to build a contraption – that would later be dropped off the fourth story of the building!  The goal – make sure the egg doesn’t break!

They have a super complex way of scoring everything – based on number of items used, weight, and more!  I loved that they rolled out a tarp with a big target on it!

Around 60 eggs were dropped in total – and a LOT of teams got the eggs from the top floor to the bottom floor successfully!

I know I loved watching the drops – and I think everyone else did too:grin:

As soon as the Egg Drop was finished – the final part of the night began – NERD PROM!!!!!

We had an entire floor to ourselves!  You could go and play with any of the exhibits to the left:

And to the right – tables all “nerdily” decorated, food, and an open bar!!

There was no official dinner – just a ton of heavy hors d’oeuvres – but they were DELICIOUS! :)

There was a lot more food – but it started to get so crowded around everything – I couldn’t get anymore pictures!

The open bar had a ton of options – including this Golden Monkey beer that everyone was raving about!  (this isn’t mine – I just tried a sip of my friends – it WAS darn good!)

My plate of food:

and of course I went with wine, as my drink of choice!

We even set up a arch for “prom pictures” – here’s me and Angelina, posing, enjoying our first drink, realizing - IT WAS FINALLY TIME FOR US TO RELAX AND PARTY!!!

From there – the partying and dancing began! We even had a DJ!

Here’s me and my department out on the balcony catching a breath of fresh air:

What would the Nerd Prom have been – without a King and Queen!

The rest of the night – was boogied away!

All in all – I think everyone had a blast – and that Yawpfest 2009 was a huge success!!

That being said – I am DEFINITELY glad it’s over!   Most committees only serve for about 5 months – but because of some curve balls we were thrown with the dates, we were lucky enough to serve for 10 months!  :???:

I leave you with – the committee – showing a big 10 – for the number of months we served – celebrating that we had pulled off a successful event!

Good luck topping us – 2010 Yawp Committee!

We did the egg drop project in my high school science class. My favorite was this guy who already had an A, so he just put his egg inside a jack o’ lantern because he just wanted to see it smash all over the ground :) I SO want to be on the 2010 Yawpfest committee.
