Hello my beauties!
How is this Tuesday treating you??
I’ve been meaning to tell you about this challenge since Sunday – but in my frantic running around to get ready for San Fran/insane busy-ness at work – I keep forgetting! So without further ado – I bring you – The Thanksgiving Challenge of 2009!
Emily from Eatventures sent me an email last week asking if I’d be interested – and – at first – I wasn’t sure if I wanted to participate. If you remember – I did Kath’s 2008 Thanksgiving Challenge – and while we survived – I remember being STRESSED out sometimes about staying within the confines of the budget. But after thinking about it a little more – I decided – challenges are almost always worth it in the long run – and definitely interesting while “in the thick of it” – so – WHY NOT?!
Here are the “rules”:
- Track your food purchases for the month of November, spending no more than $100
- Non-food grocery items (toilet paper, shampoo, etc) do not count
- You start with whatever you happen to have in the fridge/pantry
- We are not counting booze – we don’t drink much any way but I didn’t want to restrict the husband if his friends were going out
- We are not factoring in free items (Thanksgiving dinner at my grandma’s, what I get at the Foodbuzz festival, etc)
- I’m not counting any food I buy to make holiday recipes to bring to a party/family gatherings (although – we will be out of town over Thanksgiving – so this rule might not even come in to play!)
So what do you think – are you up for the challenge?

I can’t do it! I eat too much… Luckily I live at home so not worries I don’t pay for most of my food.

I am already participating! But Jodus and I gave ourselves a more acheiveable goal of $200 for the month since we are hosting Thanksgiving dinner and all. But that includes any and all food and beverage related items! I just finished my meal plan for next week and am happy to announce that I only have 4 items on our grocery list at the moment! YAY!

The darling Emily emailed me about it too, but I am so embarrassed by the amount of money I spend on groceries, I know I can’t do it! Good luck to you guys though!

I’m not sure I could do it. But I could try! (Although I just spent $97 at the store last night, so I’m not sure this counts…)

I am in!! I already watch what I spend, yet it’s crazy how fast food goes! I just got over $30 worth of groceries and was only getting “staples”. Gar!

Wish I could say yes but I totally suck at saving on groceries! I save money on lots of things- I don’t clothes shop often and we only go out to eat 1 x per week (whenever possible) but food shopping…thats my splurge!
