Happy Sunday!
One thing I should have made sure to share with you before I started our vacation recaps (a lot of you asked in the comments on the last post) – YES – the resort was all-inclusive.
Our 3rd day in Mexico – I decided I needed a break from booze. Weird, I know!
Perhaps it was from all the unordered shots the night prior, or maybe it was because we were drinking for 2 days straight. Who can say really?
Breakfast:
I wasn’t kidding about potatoes and cheese at every meal.
Since we were in a different country – I was trying to be adventurous with my food choices – so I decided to try this thing:
But – I thought it tasted just as appetizing as it looks.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS FRUIT IT???? The sign translated the Spanish word to “Pomegranate” – but that certainly doesn’t look like any pomegranate I’ve ever eaten. I googled some fruits – and the inside resembles a passion fruit – but the coloring is off. Anyone have any thoughts?
After a long morning of napping, laying around, swimming in our plunge pool,
and reading that damn book I really don’t like because I can’t stand the author/main character, but for some reason I keep reading it Eat Pray Love, we went to grab a light lunch:
Cheese – check! Just missing the potatoes!
After 2 full days – I finally stumbled upon the resort’s specialty coffee shop – and ordered a mocha AND an espresso, which I drank while playing cards with Mike in the sitting area just outside the shop:
I snagged a tart from the shop as well – which I had no intention of eating – I just wanted the fruit off the top (I know – shame, shame on me for being wasteful!). Specifically – I was totally eyeing up that fresh fig! I had never had one before!!
Verdict? Ehh. The flesh was nice and sweet, and I really liked the texture, but the skin was very “earthy” tasting, and a little too thick for me. I don’t know if all figs taste like that or if this was a weird one. I’d definitely try one again – I’m just not sure I’m actually a fan!
For dinner – I begged Mike to go to the Pan-Asian themed restaurant, Himitsu:
and he finally caved!
There was a wait – so we did end up grabbing an alcoholic beverage while we waited:
Once we were finally seated – we started with the Dim Sum to split:
and each got 2 extra treats just plopped down in front of us on the table:
We aren’t really sure what was in them – the only word we could understand was pork – but they were delicious nonetheless!
For my entree – I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai:
which was pretty good – but oddly sweet, and not at ALL spicy which of course made me sad. Some of you may know I am just slightly reliant on Frank’s Red Hot Sauce, perhaps my tastebuds are skewed…
Then we went and watched the sunset at the Jurassic Park Lobby Bar:
Not a bad day at all…

Ahhh as I look out the window at the snow, your post makes me hopeful for warmth again some day! What a great vacay.
Haha Eat Pray Love totally annoyed me too, and because my blog title is so similar (wasn’t thinking!) people think I love it!

So jealous of your trip to Mexico! Especially when it’s the coldest it’s been all year in NC. I remember an all-inclusive trip to the Dominican several years ago with my husband (then boyfriend). Neither of us have much recollection of that week

Everything from your trip looks amazing! What a fun getaway. I have NO clue what that fruit is. You’re brave for trying new things like that though!

nom nom. My favorite part about traveling to tropical destinations (other than fab weather) is the fruit!

I don’t know why the Pad Thai in foreign countries tastes so sweet. In Thailand they use coconut palm sugar to add to the flavor but the sweet taste is not overwhelming.
It should be more salty than sweet. Probably foreigners like asian food sweet…like sweet and sour.

I’ve had such a great time reading about your trip! I almost always carry a small bottle of Tabasco in my purse – you never know when you need to kick it up a notch!!
And there is nothing wrong about have cheese at every meal!

hahaha totally chuckled at my desk re: your Eat Pray Love comment. I couldn’t put my finger on what exactly bothered me about the author/main character, but sometimes I really just wanted to smack her silly! That being said, I DID enjoy it for the ‘Eat’ part and the wanderlust it triggered.
