In case you were wondering, the Aebleskivers and I went at it again last night.
I “seasoned” the pan Saturday night:
So I knew I was out of excuses if anything went wrong this time I was ready to go!
Step 1: Start to burn the pot holder thingy that came with the cast iron pan. When you smell burning, rush over to stove with quizzical look, take a minute to realize that the open flame that is touching the flammable fabric is what is causing the smell, pull burning pot holder off, and throw under water in the sink.![]()
Already – equally successful as the first time around.
Step 2: Manage to ruin most of them again, but flip 4!!! (which even though the were burnt to all hell – I still squealed with delight over!)
Step 3: Cover with powder sugar and attempt to feed to husband, assuring him, “They will taste delicious”: ![]()
Step 4: Throw in garbage when husband shoves them away saying they are disgusting.
Damn you Aebleskivers. Damn you!
Aebleskivers 1.5 – Allison 0.5 (yes – I’m giving myself half a win since I was actually able to flip a few this time. Burnt or not.
) I’m not finished with you yet!

Oh dear.
It’s totally the pans fault, first of all. Who designed it anyway?! I mean really. It needs to have a top and a bottom so you can just flip the pan, na’imsayin?
At least the 4 that came out look good! I’d eat them.

I feel like a terrible person taking such joy in your failures, but this had me giggling like crazy.

You’re .5 steps ahead of me. I just look at the pan in my kitchen and get nervous. Geoff and I watched the YouTube tutorial yesterday and he goes, “You know when they do the 1/4 turns? It’s not going to be that effing easy.” I mean, this homegirl can’t even flip a pancake or omelette without messing up the result. Agh! Your look like Martha Stewart’s compared to what I’m envisioning mine to be.

Like the wise Ralph Wiggum from the highly intellectual TV show, The Simpson’s, once said, “tastes like burning.” You’ll get ‘em next time champ!!

The Aebleskivers stress me out a little bit. It seems like such a cool idea. I’m thinking it would be a bad mix with my lack of patience.

Allison, I’m going to give you the speech I have given to many:
We all have our strengths. No one is good at everything. Some people are good at baking. Some people are not. It’s important to know our own limitations.
I started giving out that speech when a friend of mine, who was a smoker, kept burning herself and getting ashes in her eyes.

Too funny. I can’t bake for the life of me either though, so I can’t laugh too much!
