Slow and Steady

Yesterday – for the first time since AUGUST – I ran 6 miles!

It felt AMAZING (albeit, slower than molasses)! Back when I started running – Mike lovingly pointed out one day: People walk as fast as you run!

True – and yet I don’t care, it’s not about speed for me, its about getting from point A to B, running (even if it does just look like feet shuffling, and a tall man could walk next to me)   Slow and steady wins the race, right???

I met Kristin for our long run down at Rocky River Park.  Call Cleveland “The Mistake on the Lake” if you will – but it really is a wonderful place! 1.23 063It’s always cool to see Lake Erie, frozen over, so quiet, before sunrise!   That will never get old!  (It’s just as fun in the summer too!)1.23 065 1.23 067 6 miles later:1.23 068Knock on wood – my foot feels okay!  :???:   Let’s hope that keeps up!

When I got home – I was starving, and craving protein, but really didn’t want to wait the 10 minutes it would take for the oats to cook, to make spicy oats.  So instead:1.23 004 Flat Out with Eggs, Turkey, Hummus, Laughing Cow, and Frank’s1.23 005Then – I showered, watched a terrible movie (DO NOT EVER EVER EVER EVER RENT “Beyond a Reasonable Doubt”), caught up on some blog to-do’s, and took the pups over to play at my parents.  (No pics, sorry!) :(

When I got home I was starving again – so I whipped up this lovely salad:1.23 006Morning Star Buffalo Wings, Celery, Red Onion, Mozzarella, topped with:1.23 010What did I ever do before I found Frank’s?  I really don’t know!  1.23 008The rest of the night was spent cooking, catching up on some magazine reading, and watching some TV! A perfect low key Saturday night!

Can you spot the dog?     1.23 038Silly Harvard! (I think I need to make a list of Harvey’s nicknames, just like I did for Lando a while ago…)

After I was done creating my Aunt Debbie’s Chicken Salad recipe  – you KNOW I had to make it my dinner – I chose to go the Flat Out way:1.23 041 1.23 043 Sweet, with a kick from the curry, and then a wonderful crunch from the pom seeds and lettuce – YUM!

Okay – now I’m off to put off cleaning, as much as I can.  Does anyone want to come clean my house for free?  Does anyone want to give me a new free vacuum that will actually WORK and pick up all the pet hair dustballs tumbling across this place???? :???:

Great run! I haven’t gotten out there in over a month–yikes! Oh well, I’ve got 2 months before my half so I can put it off a little more :-)

nice work on the 6 miler!!

mid spicy oat preparation yesterday i realized we were out of frank’s!! i immediately sent the teen, tires squealing, to the store to purchase the replacement. sheeeeesh! i cannot let that happen again!!!!!

Sometimes I think a Shop Vac works best for getting all the dog hair up.

If you can swing a Dyson Animal, you will not regret it!! It changed my life and this is not overstating it AT ALL. I had a cat (RIP) whose shedding was over and above anything I’ve ever seen and never seemed to be able to get on top of the hair situation until I got the Dyson. Ditto with the tiny little Boston Terrier hairs that cling to everything. Best $$ I’ve ever spent!!

I was in Cleveland yesterday for the day and went to Westside Markett (AMAZING), but also to A Cookie and a Cupcake per your recommendation. They were fantastic!!

I think we consume the same amount of Frank’s :)

love the picture of harvey!!! toby has a pillow radar too! if there’s a pillow, he’s on it. and james always makes fun of me for the millions of nicknames i give toby (t-dizzle, tobydoby, t-dawg, poodle (yea james really hates that one..he always says “he’s a golden retriever! not a poodle!”) , tobleroney pony…there’s a new one everyday :)

and yes, that movie was awful!

Love the Harvey picture, and congratulations on the 6 miler!!! I bet I am WAY slower than you, but at least we get out there and do it, right? :)

Congrats on you run missy!! That’s fantabulous :-)

Atta girl on that run!!! I was proud of my 5 miles this morning, even though it is at about 2 minutes per mile slower than my old pace…gave me more time to catch up on my “Teen Mom.” I’ve got some child labor I could hook you up with!

That’s exciting about your run! I know the feeling.. I just ran 6.5 yesterday..first time since October. So weird but wonderful. And your dog is adorable!!

[Reply]

I run really slowly too. I’ve definitely been told that I shuffle.

[Reply]

Congrats on your run!! Nothing wrong with slow– it’s faster than not at all :)

great job on the 6 miles. that must feel so awesome after all the time you’ve had to take off! and as far as your chicken salad post goes~ GENIUS to add pom arils!

So beautiful! That might, just maybe, be beautiful enough to get me to run outside in the cold. Actually, no it wouldn’t! Ha.
Sorry about the email not working, it would have helped for me to spell it right! It should work now.
Darn! We don’t have a trader joe’s here. It’s definitely one thing I miss about the city. Maybe I will have to make a special trip just to hit up joe’s!
Thanks for replying!

Oh I forgot! Congrats on 6 miles, that’s impressive! Especially after an injury! I ran 2 miles today for the first time since September! I’m also super slow, but who cares, at least we’re out there pounding the pavement (or the dreadmill in my case).

We love our Dyson. It isn’t a pet Dyson, just one of the smaller, cheaper ones. But it changed our lives!
Great job on the 6 miles. I did 7 miles for the first time this morning…and I did it slow as hell! Slow and steady gets it done for sure.

I HATE cleaning but love how our apartment looks afterward. Not a fun job! (But worth it.) Congrats on your run! (And all your delish eats!) :)

[Reply]

Ooo I love those Morningstar Buffalo Wings. They’ve got a good amount of spice to them, which is tough to find in veggie products I feel like.
Beautiful lake pictures btw! :)

[Reply]

Wow, it isn’t on fire anymore… awesome:) I kid, I kid:)

I have an extra killer vacuum. Come to CO and it is all yours, hooker:)

[Reply]

Congrats on the run! Great job!! Sadie likes to sleep on top of the couch cushion like that too! Haha!

[Reply]

You haven’t run since August and managed 6 miles?! Good for you! That must have felt great. Looks like a beautiful place to run.

I definitely feel your pain with the pet hair!

[Reply]

I sooo know what you mean about people walking as fast you run. I was “running” around the track one morning last year, and this super tall, super old guy lapped me….possibly even twice. I kept thinking..”what the hell, he’s WALKING and I’m RUNNING!?” LOL~ oh well at least our bodies are out there moving, right? ;)
Mistake on the lake? Do people really call Cleveland that?? I miss the lake so much. ( I’m from Marblehead ) :(
Crazy how many things you hit on in your post. Franks Red Hot! I feel ya!! I was just saying the same thing the other day. “What was my life like before I started using Franks Red Hot??” I LOVE that stuff!
Keep up the great work. :)

Every time I look at your profile photo, I think to myself how beautiful and photogenic you look. There are several bloggers whose photos are always just lovely, and yours are included. I wish all the photos I took of myself were so great!

[Reply]

haha i ran today too (2.4 miles, not 6!!) and the whole time i was thinking, i bet i can speed walk this fast!!!!! i am such a slow runner but i dont get winded or anything…i just cant seem to pick up the pace!

[Reply]

Yay for 6 miles and Cleveland!
:)

[Reply]

wow great run girl!! i always crave protein after runs too..weird! you would think itd be carbs!

[Reply]

Almost rented Beyond a Reasonable Doubt yesterday – glad I didn’t. Although, also not glad that I did get Paranormal Activity. Agh!!!!

[Reply]

Frank = NOM. Also, why do dogs LOVE sleeping on top of couch cushions SO much? All my family dogs have done that too!

Congrats on your 6 miles! Even if it was slow, it’s still six miles, dammit!

[Reply]

Seriously, let me know if anyone is willing to clean your house for free and then send them over to California to clean my apartment for free. haha.

Congrats on the six miles. How’s your foot feeling today?

Harvard is an awesome dog nickname. I wanna see Harvey’s list for sure.

[Reply]

congrats on the run! i am the same way – with just exercise in general, its more for me than anything else – its about how it makes me feel.

that comment mike made is sooo something bryan would say to me, haha

[Reply]

If you lived anywhere near me, my daughter would be over in 2 seconds to clean – and probably would do it for free! :D I really don’t know what I’ll do when she moves out – she keeps the place spotless!
Love the Frank’s sauce pic!!!

[Reply]

I know I’m late to this post but oh well! THAT is how the Brat and BB always sleep on our couch so our cushions are permenantly dented in the center. Dorks!
