Biohazard

Is it just me or does the “BIOHAZARD” sticker/logo FREAK anyone else out????

I mean – I know they make it scary on purpose (right??) because they want you to stay away – but still – whenever I see that logo – it instills fear in my heart!

I guess that long rambling was my own special way of saying “I sent back my bone marrow donor testing kit.”   I’m weird.

Breakfast…surprise, surprise…

Hey – at least I didn’t burn it this time, right??

For lunch I had brought my own supplies to make a Buffalo “Chicken” salad – but when someone suggested Rockne’s – I JUMPED all over it, because you KNOW how I feel about their Buffalo Chicken Salad!!!

While I waited for lunch – I ate some pickles:

20 minutes later – TA-DA!  (I love not being the one to go out and get the food for our group!)

Heavenly – AS USUAL!!!

In my continuing effort to cook new dishes – last night I decided to try and conquer lasagna.  Which – I need to preface with this…

My teeny tiny Italian Grandma – makes the WORLD’S BEST LASAGNA.  There is no competition, and I’m pretty sure I could eat a full 13×9 pan of it myself, no problem.  Knowing a lasagna I make will never reach that amazing status is hard, and perhaps the reason I’ve never made my own, in the 27 (almost 28 – GAHHH!!! ) years I’ve been on this planet.

So what pushed over the edge, causing me to have my try at lasagna???

The fact that I found Whole Wheat Oven Ready Lasagna noodles!!!!

(my Grandma is crying right now if she’s reading this!) 2.5 015

There’s roughly a trillion (I did a quick count) lasagna recipes out there – so I figured I was safest to stick with the recipe on the back of the box.

Which brings me to another digression…

The portion sizes of the ingredients were INSANE!  I had no idea you needed SO MUCH STUFF when making lasagna!!  TWO FULL JARS OF SAUCE?  Sorry Gia Russa, I’ve only got one.  TWO FULL POUNDS OF RICOTTA??  Sorry Gia Russa, I’ve only got 15oz.  (Not to mention the recipe called for 3 other kinds of cheese as well!)

So I cut back and only made 2 layers, as opposed to 4! After 35 minutes in the oven:

My heaping portion:

Verdict?  Definitely tasty, but definitely not Granny’s.  I really wish we would have had some more veggies in the house!  I did sneak some artichokes into my half, but I would have loved to add some spinach, zucchini, onions and peppers!

I really don’t watch that much TV – but I feel like all I’ve talked about this week has been shows!!  I just have to say this though – The Office last night – HYSTERICAL!  And, I’m in LOVE with Unemployed David Wallace.

Will you marry me?

LOL I love the David Wallace picture! So good!

Lasagna is hard. I wish I could make one that folks would write about! Yours looks pretty good. :)

That salad does look pretty jammin. What is your favorite brand of pickles? Have you tried Boars Head? They’re amazing. Nice work on the lasagna! Such a fun dish – you can make a million varieties

hahaha unemployed david wallace was pretty stellar :)

So I take it you’ll be buying a Suck It! when they come on the market?

I might have a bit of an unhealthy love for all things Office. :) But yeah – Wallace was fantastic last night.

I make a pretty tasty lasagna if I do say so myself. I’ve never seen the whole wheat noodles though. Must investigate!

I second Erica’s vote for Boar’s Head pickles. They are garlicky and delicious. I’ve not found another jarred variety I like as much.

You should totally try out my mom’s lasagna recipe soon!! It is so easy to make and it is delicious!! :)

David Wallace makes unemployment SEXY. The jam session he had with his little ginger kid at the end of the episode? Be still my heart.

As far as the lasagna goes – I feel like you’re setting yourself up for failure! You can never compete with a family favorite. Maybe try a quirky lasagna instead – like butternut squash lasagna? My friend Natalie made one on her blog a few weeks ago – hope this helps!

LOVED The Office! Your recipe story made me think of Friends and Pheobe’s cookie recipe :)

AHAHAHAHA! Unemployed David Wallace was amazing. I was laughing out loud! I <3 The Office.

I attempted lasagna once. I made it from scratch (minus making my own pasta) and it took me all afternoon. It was good but because of all the effort, I never made it again. HA! Lazy chef I guess.

Only a Grandma can make Grandma quality lasagna. It does look good. I am sure your granny will share her secrets

Your lasagna looks good! I actually hate lasagna but the husband’s favorite food is his mom’s lasagna which makes me super scared to serve it. I did remake his mom’s recipe once (he loved it!) and I too was shocked at how much STUFF you needed!

[Reply]

Uhhh, no, David Wallace can’t marry you, because he’s going to marry me instead.

David Wallace was the best in this episode. Love the 5 o’clock shadow and the song at the end. Hilarious!

Any lasagna left over for me? It looks wonderful!

[Reply]

Wasn’t that episode hysterical? I loved when Jim was like, “infantry.” Awesome.

Soooo proud of you for signing up to be a bone marrow donor! It’s definitely a selfless act!
