Cut the Crap Challenge

So here’s my big news!!   I alluded to it last night – and promised to tell you about it today!

Over the past 4 months, I’ve found myself becoming a little bit lazy about food, and making ridiculous excuses saying things like:

  • “It’s vacation – it’s okay to splurge”
  • “Well, this weekend is ‘X Event’ – I shouldn’t try to change any habits now since the weekend will be crazy”
  • “It’s winter”  (Not even joking – that’s been an excuse)

So I’ve decided to challenge myself for the next 20 days to really clean my act up.

Why? 90% of it has to do with the way I FEEL right now (gross, slow, lethargic, unhealthy), and 10% has to do with the way I LOOK right now (clothes are tight, and I feel a twinge of unhappiness when I see a picture of myself).

Before I go into the guidelines – I did want to give some props to Heather and Rose, because many of the rules I have below were tweaked from their Clean Life Challenge that I participated in, in May 2009.  Thanks for the inspiration ladies!

Challenge Goal: CUT THE CRAP!

Caffeine

  • Drink no more than 12 ounces of coffee/day.  I think this will be hardest on the weekends, where I bet if I measured – I probably have about 30 oz of coffee each day!

    Dairy

  • No cheese WHATSOEVER. None. Zero.
  • Keep yogurt, eggs, and other dairy to a minimum, and if using milk – stick with almond milk.

    Processed Foods/Fast Food/Eating Out

  • In a given week – If I haven’t gone grocery shopping, I tend to rely heavily on processed foods.  My goal over the next 20 days is to STAY away from any ingredients I can’t pronounce, and try to eat lots of fresh produce and natural ingredients.

    Sweeteners

  • No artificial sweetener since doing the Clean Life challenge, I don’t think this one will be too much of a challenge, if anything – it will apply more to packaged ingredients.  .
  • No white sugar.

    Bread

  • No white flour
  • Try to get whole wheat bread and other whole grains – really check the ingredient list!

    Why I’m Doing this Challenge

    • I want to feel better, I’ve been feeling very gross (both inside and out) these past few months.
    • I want to stop my cheese addiction.  Dairy does a number on my system, but I still eat cheese like it’s going out of style because I love the taste.
    • I want to be in the best shape possibly as I go into the final weeks of my marathon training.
    • I want to stop letting “having one glass of wine” turn in to 4 glasses.

The challenge will run TODAY through April 14th!

If you’d care to join me in the challenge – you are more than welcome, just let me know so I can link to you!!   Here goes nothing!

  • PS – Those of you who guess I was going vegan – GOOD GUESS!  I actually do have a Vegan Challenge idea, but I’m waiting to do that until after my marathon in May!

    I’m Shy

Day 2 of our National Sales Meeting (NSM) was another huge success!

There was a TON of information/presentations to go over, so our bosses made sure to schedule 15 minutes worth of fun team challenges each day, to help break things up!  Day 2’s challenge: BLACK JACK!

    NSM.2 004

Look how serious the players look, and look how smiley the spectators are!

Lunch – Qdoba Hot Bar – I LOVE being able to build my own plate of Mexican food!

The rest of the day FLEW by, and before I knew it – it was time to head out to our evening event – which ended up being at the House of Blues in downtown Cleveland!

    01(23)

I’d actually never been there before (I know – I’m a sheltered Clevelander), but I was totally digging the decor in our private room:

There was an INSANE amount of food – this is just 1 of 3 tables that were out for us:

    NSM.2 013

I grabbed a little of everything (and ended up throwing a grilled chicken breast on top of everything in this picture, to get some protein in my life!):

    NSM.2 018

Even though I had about 7 “Sugar Free Red Bull & Vodka”s over the course of the evening – I didn’t manage to snag a picture of a single drink.  Go figure! Apparently my priority was to drink them, not be patient and take a picture of them first!

Me, and the NY Office (which is who I support) – I ADORE all of them!

    NSM.2 056

I’m not sure if you’ve picked up on it by now – but we are a really fun, outgoing group, and one of the main reasons our boss picked House of Blues – she knew CRAZY KARAOKING would ensue!

I’m definitely one of the shy ones, can’t ya tell?

    All our cheering fans:

    NSM.2 025

We finished up at House of Blues around 10 – but then headed back to the hotel to hang out with all of the Out of Towners!

I didn’t have anything to drink there – but my co-worker Katie had some drinks…

    NSM.2 088

…and SPECIFICALLY requested to be on the blog. Actually – there were several points in the evening when people were yelling “Put THIS on your blog, Allison!!!” – anything to make my co-workers happy!

So here’s a question for you today – What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?  Being down at the HOB reminded me that I haven’t been to a concert in FOREVER, and I forgot how much I love them!    Looks like I gotta check out Ticket Master soon!

    Last Supper

Does this look like a lot of cheese to you?

    3.25 009

It does to me, but I promise, there’s a reason that I’m bringing it up!!   Tomorrow I’m announcing a 20 Day Challenge – any guess on what it might be?
